There’s something about spring in the classroom.

The light changes. The kids get a little louder. The schedule loosens just enough for spontaneity. And even from my admin vantage point, things just look really fun. (I’m telling you, my camera can’t keep up with all the incredible photo ops—from field trips to hula hoop contests!)

Also teachers start dreaming again—about summer plans, next year’s curriculum, and sometimes even what we need for ourselves. (I know, shocking.)

This spring, I’ve been noticing:

🌿 How much students thrive outdoors.
Even just twenty minutes under the trees can soften tension and spark new curiosity—it’s a literal breath of fresh air. Classes around here are taking their big culminating trips and getting outside and I can just see how learning comes alive when the classroom walls disappear.

🗓 How field trips require a LOT of planning.
Every time I pulled one off during my teaching days, I thought, “Why don’t we do this more often?”—and then I remembered all the logistics. I never figured out how to make all those phone calls when I was spending so much time in the classroom!

So I finally created a printable Field Trip Planning Template to help streamline the process. (If you’re a paid subscriber, scroll to the bottom of the post for the download.)

✨ How teachers (and all of us, really) crave rhythm and reset.
Spring has a way of revealing where we’re holding too much. This is the time I always re-evaluated what was working, what wasn’t, and what needed to be released. Sometimes that effort was inspired by a last-minute attempt to make the most of those final weeks of school. But even when I felt totally on my game and cruising to the finish line, I still felt motivated to tidy things up in the spring.

That same seasonal energy inspired my new course, In Season: Spring Refresh—a gentle guide to help you reset your systems, finish the year strong, and carve space for yourself along the way. Enrollment for this course is open now (just for one more week) and I’d love for you to join.

Wherever you are in your own rhythm this season, I hope you’re finding small ways to reconnect—with your work, your students, and yourself.
